FAQs

When will we host our first student?

This is something that is impossible to predict, as we try to make the best matches possible. Because the needs and preferences of the students and the host families can vary greatly, we only make a match when certain number of criteria is met.

Are hosts paid?

YES! The purpose of the monthly stipend is to cover the costs of hosting, such as higher grocery or utilities bills. The average stipend across Canada is about $600-$1,000 per month but can be higher depending on the locale. As an organization based in Metro Vancouver, our stipend is set at $1,300 per month.

How is the stipend calculated if the student arrives/leaves in the middle of the month?

Monthly stipend is $1,300, so if the student arrives or leaves in the middle of the month, you will be receiving $650. For all other circumstances, the going daily rate is $43/night.

How are hosts supported by Elim Homestay?

As a new host family, you will be provided with our set of general rules for you and your student, to outline the hosting relationship. Once a student is matched with you, you will be contacted and provided with general information on the student. You will then be given a choice to either accept or decline.

If you accept, the student will be brought to your doorstep by our team member with his/her luggage in hand, on the date and time that has been previously discussed.

We also offer a support system that responds to texts and calls 24/7. You will always be able to get someone to help in emergency situations.
